This bridge was Phase I of the West Seattle Bridge Project. ABKJ led a design team to replace a damaged bascule bridge. The project included a 590' concrete box girder structure with spans of 375', 590', and 375', and continuous prestressed girder spans up to 185' long. The High Level Bridge provides 5,600' of elevated freeway with a vertical clearance of 140' above the water. This bridge was Phase II of the West Seattle Bridge Project. ABKJ led a design team to create this concrete double-leaf swing bridge that crosses the Duwamish River and connects Harbor Island to West Seattle. With a span of 480’, it is one of the largest swing bridges in the world.
