Good Samaritan Hospital Expansion, Puyallup, Washington

Encompassing six city blocks, this is the largest recent street improvement project in Puyallup and the first with a roundabout. ABKJ utilized Civil 3D dynamic modeling software to design a 12’ diameter bored tunnel 45’ below the existing street intersection. Low Impact Development (LID) techniques include green roofs, porous pavement, and bioretention. The project is LEED Gold certified.

Children’s Hospital Ambulatory Center, Bellevue, Washington

This fast-track project utilized Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) and Collaborative LEAN Principles for optimizing the design and minimizing construction costs. ABKJ utilized Civil 3D Building Information Modeling (BIM) for the civil design, which included a stormwater pond and swales as landscaping features. The project is LEED Gold certified.

Harrison Hospital Expansion, Silverdale, Washington

This project will add 300,000 sf and 200 beds to the campus. ABKJ modeled and optimized the site in Civil3D Building Information Modeling (BIM). Civil features included extensive grading to the 27-acre site. The project was accelerated to vest it under current stormwater regulations, saving valuable land and upwards of $1 million in construction costs. Low Impact Development (LID) techniques included permeable pavement, raingardens, dispersion, vegetated roofs, and swales.

St. Charles Medical Center, Bend, Oregon

ABKJ redesigned the existing utility infrastructure, including water, stormwater treatment, primary power, communications, gas service routing, fire service, and universal access. ABKJ also designed a 3/4 mile site access road and parking lot and walkway layouts in landscaped areas.

Seattle Biomedical Research Institute, Seattle, Washington

The ABKJ civil design included street and alley improvements to meet the City of Seattle grading and drainage requirements. A major task was relocating the existing overhead power into an underground vault. Drainage improvements included sizing and designing a stormwater detention vault under the lowest parking garage level. The design incorporated street trees, new landscaping, and coordinating multiple building floor elevations.

ABKJ designed street improvements and utility hook-up, sewer and water utility design, erosion control plan, and fire service and universal site access. The design also included retaining walls along the north service access driveway and near the main entry drive, shoring walls on three sides of the building, landscaping and plantings throughout the project site, and water quality treatment facilities.

University of Washington Savery Hall Upgrade, Seattle, Washington

ABKJ evaluated and upgraded existing utilities, drainage, and water service connections for domestic and fire water supply. The design ran pipe parallel to the deep storm pipe to avoid a large excavation and used a drop connection for the sanitary sewer. The civil design included a demolition plan and temporary erosion control for this 1.5-acre site. The project is LEED Gold certified.

The ABKJ civil design included a sanitary sewer extension, stormwater conveyance, water main relocation and extension, horizontal and vertical alignments for site access roads, and retaining wall layout and profiling, and grading to meet key access points and maintain clearances for emergency vehicles.
