ABKJ has designed more than 100 major medical center projects in the United States and India with construction costs in excess of $5 billion. Our hospital project clients include The University of Washington Medical Center, Duke University Medical Center, MultiCare Health System, Sharp HealthCare, Franciscan Health System, and Sisters of Providence.

ABKJ designed the Good Samaritan Hospital expansion in Puyallup, the first hospital in Washington state to meet the requirements of LEED Gold sustainable design certification and the Seattle Biomedical Research Institute (SBRI), the first laboratory certified under the LEED Silver Core and Shell Pilot Program.

Good Samaritan Hospital, Puyallup, Washington

This 9-story, 340,000 sf addition includes three new buildings: a Patient Care Tower, a Parking Garage, and a Central Utility Plant. The project added more than 300 beds to the campus. The Patient Care Tower LEED® Gold certified. The ABKJ design utilized Building Information Modeling (BIM) with Revit and Civil 3D.

Duke University Children’s Hospital, Durham, North Carolina

This 5-story, 95,000 sf facility serves as the major specialty referral center for infants and children of North Carolina and includes an adjacent 2-level parking garage. The hospital houses state-of-the-art pediatric and neonatal intensive care units in a facility aesthetically designed for children of all ages.

Harborview Expansion, Seattle, Washington

ABKJ has completed more than 70 projects on the Harborview Medical Center campus, including the 145,000 sf trauma center, the 147,000 sf ViewPark II garage, and the 180,000 sf research and training facility.

Overlake Medical Center South Tower, Bellevue, Washington

This 5-story, 200,000 sf expansion added four levels of underground parking, a 40-bed emergency trauma center, six new operating rooms, and a new acute care center. ABKJ introduced the SidePlate system for connecting steel beams and columns, which saved the owner more than $1 million and provided flexibility for four more floors of future vertical expansion.

Skagit Valley Hospital, Mount Vernon, Washington

This 4-story (including basement), 220,000 sf addition to the north side of the existing hospital includes new emergency and day surgery areas, six operating rooms, and a birthing center.

Sharp Memorial Hospital Modernization, San Diego, California

This 7-story, 325,000 sf addition and 30,000 sf of renovation added 334 beds to the facility. The addition houses relocated acute care and ICU nursing units, the surgical suite, and emergency departments. The ABKJ design utilized a structural steel special moment-resisting frame (SMRF) system, the first of its kind in OSHPD history. This project was named the Most Beautiful Hospital in America by Soliant.com.

University of Washington Surgery Pavilion, Seattle, Washington

This 330,000 sf facility houses short-stay surgery and treatment areas and diagnostic and ancillary services. It is constructed above a new 3-story underground parking garage that houses 300 parking spaces.
