Automotive Assembly Plant Risk Assessment Study

ABKJ performed tornado risk assessment studies for 46 buildings in two states and developed concepts and cost estimates for structural upgrades. The final report and presentation to the owner included four complete building designs using building information modeling (BIM).

Algona Solid Waste Transfer Station Roof Replacement, Algona, Washington

ABKJ designed a new roof structure utilizing upturned triangular steel delta trusses to maximize the clear space below the roof structure. The new roof increased safety by reducing seismic and roof collision risks and optimizes the usable headroom for large trash trucks.

This 270' x 648' high bay facility with partial office mezzanine (262,000 sf) has a storage live load of 350 psf. Constructed of concrete tilt-up wall panels this facility has truck loading docks and ramps with a 27’ height clearnace. The project was designed to accommodate future expansion on one longitudinal wall.

Houghton Solid Waste Transfer Station, Kirkland, Washington

This replacement design required the facility to be operational at 80% capacity during construction. ABKJ devised a means of raising and retrofitting the existing roof structural framing one half at a time to allow the station open for the entire construction duration.

Renton Solid Waste Transfer Roof Replacement Project, Renton, Washington

Safety improvements included constructing a new roof framing from the tipping floor up, using column-free and higher roof framing to allow large trucks to operate freely and safely on the tipping floor.

Skykomish Drop Box Emergency Replacement Design, Skykomish, Washington

This was an emergency design to replace a collapsed roof caused by a heavy snowfall. The design and permitting was finished in just five months. The fast design, permitting, and construction were achieved through an integrated design and Building Information Modeling (BIM) approach.
